When I need a quiet place just to think and reflect, I find myself drawn to the beauty and peace of a cemetery. Far from being spooky, I find them places of beautiful sculpture that I find calming. In our older cemeteries, they are filled with the names of people no one now remembers or even knew. But I know they too had their struggles, hope, dreams, and challenges. This is a reminder to me that whatever is bothering me will eventually pass. Life goes on for me, for now. And I must seize the moments I have.

Las Vegas Strip
Driving the Las Vegas strip is an interesting trip in time. The southern portion is modern, sleek and glossy. Going north shows the older, more seedy, part. It is surprising how much of the old strip was still there and in need of repair (or demolition!). And, there was still the abundance of wedding chapels. It’s a fascinating place!
I-70 through Utah
I vote for the I-70 through Utah as one of my favorite routes. The scenery is breathtaking. The mountains are multi-colored and the road winds around to show changing vistas with every few miles. The gorges and buttes and rivers are incredible.
We’ve just returned from a trip through several states and I keep thinking of this particular stretch of highway. It was so enjoyable!
Sunflower Thief
The sunflowers are growing tall and beautiful in the Fullerton Arboretum cultivated gardens. These individual plots are an interesting mix of vegetables, fruits, flowers, and they’re full of quirky garden toys and art. This little squirrel snatched one of the sunflowers, scurried up a Sycamore tree, and proceeded to nibble away. He didn’t seem to mind my watching.
Goldfield Ghost Town
We visited this great old mining town in Apache Junction AZ as the sun was setting. The hills were ablaze and the town charming. Unfortunately, everything was closed up for the day; so it is definitely a place to revisit. The website is at http://goldfieldghosttown.com/ for more information. The amount of old equipment on display was incredible; I found it all fascinating.
Pointy Ears and Long Tails
I find cats to be so engaging and endearing. They have standoffish ways and I don’t like their sharp teeth and claws but still, I love seeing them.
Over the last six months, a neighbor’s cat befriended us. She would look for us as we took our periodic walks and herd us over to her favorite territory. We’ve spent a whole lot of time sitting on the cold winter sidewalk petting, hanging out together and listening to her purr.
She (with her family) moved last month and although I do not miss the fur on my hands & face and in my nose, I do miss those pointy ears and her thumping tail.
